A World In Motion (AWIM)

Developed by SAE International, the programme provides curriculum-aligned kits and resources covering topics such as motion, force, energy, aerodynamics, and engineering design. Activities are organised by age band, typically spanning Kindergarten through Grade 8 (approximately ages 4–14), and include challenges such as designing gravity-powered vehicles, jet toys, skimmers, glider planes, and motorised cars.

Each unit combines storyline-based scenarios with practical building tasks, mathematical calculations, data recording, and iterative testing, allowing pupils to apply the engineering design process to defined problems. AWIM is delivered through partnerships between schools and volunteer industry mentors, typically engineers and technical professionals affiliated with SAE International, who support classroom teachers during sessions.

The programme supplies teacher guides, pupil worksheets, and physical materials required for each challenge, and aligns its content with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Common Core mathematics standards in the United States. It is used by primary and middle schools, after-school clubs, and informal education providers seeking structured STEM enrichment resources, and forms part of SAE International's wider portfolio of pre-university outreach activities intended to introduce pupils to engineering and mobility-related disciplines.
