Accent 1000
Description
Accent 1000 is a dedicated speech-generating device produced by PRC-Saltillo used for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) by individuals with significant speech, language, or motor impairments.
The device features a 10-inch touchscreen and runs the NuVoice software platform, which supports a range of language systems including Unity, LAMP Words for Life, and WordPower. These vocabulary systems are designed to support users at varying stages of language development, from early symbol-based communication through to literacy-based text input.
The Accent 1000 includes synthesised speech output through multiple voice options, and supports access methods such as direct touch, head tracking, and switch scanning to accommodate users with different physical abilities. In educational settings, the Accent 1000 is used by speech and language therapists, teachers, and learning support staff working with pupils who have conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, Rett syndrome, or acquired brain injury.
The device can be programmed and customised to reflect a pupil's vocabulary needs, classroom topics, and personal interests, and includes features for storing messages, creating phrases, and accessing core and fringe vocabulary. It also offers environmental control capabilities, computer access functions, and the ability to send text messages, allowing users to participate in academic, social, and home activities.
