Description
Accent 1400 is a dedicated speech-generating device produced by PRC-Saltillo, used as an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tool for individuals with significant speech and language impairments.
The device features a 14-inch touchscreen display and runs the NuVoice software platform, which supports a range of language systems including Unity, LAMP Words for Life, WordPower and CoreScanner. It is designed for use by individuals who require AAC support, including those with conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, Rett syndrome, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and aphasia.
The Accent 1400 includes built-in speakers, an integrated mounting plate and access methods that accommodate users with varying motor abilities, including direct touch, head tracking, eye gaze and switch scanning. In educational settings, the Accent 1400 is typically used by speech and language therapists, special educational needs coordinators and classroom support staff to facilitate communication for non-speaking or minimally verbal pupils.
The device supports vocabulary customisation, message storage and text-to-speech output in multiple voices, and includes tools for therapists and educators to monitor language development through usage data and language activity monitoring (LAM).
