Ava
Description
Ava is a social and emotional learning (SEL) curriculum and online game used for supporting neurodivergent students aged 10 to 15 in developing self-advocacy skills, emotional regulation, and social competencies.
Developed by Social Cipher, the platform combines a narrative-based video game with a structured SEL curriculum designed for use in schools, therapy settings, and private provider contexts. The game follows characters navigating social scenarios, with gameplay mechanics intended to teach skills such as emotional identification, communication, and conflict resolution.
Lessons are aligned with Individualised Education Programme (IEP) goals and can be delivered in whole-class, small group, or one-to-one intensive support formats. The service is aimed at educators, special educational needs coordinators, school counsellors, speech and language therapists, and private practitioners working with neurodivergent young people, including autistic students and those with ADHD.
Social Cipher provides accompanying professional development training for staff implementing the curriculum, along with district-level solutions for wider deployment. Ava received the Games for Change 2022 Best Learning Game Award and Social Cipher was selected as a 2022 MIT Solve Solver.
