Calcularis

Developed through research originally conducted at ETH Zurich, the programme applies findings from neuroscience and cognitive psychology to the training of mathematical abilities. Exercises are structured around the development of mental representations of numbers, including the number line, and progress through topics such as number sense, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions.

The software adjusts the difficulty and selection of tasks in real time based on each learner's performance, presenting content within a game-based interface intended for use by children aged approximately 6 to 13. Calcularis is distributed by Constructor Technology as part of its learning portfolio and is offered to schools through site licences.

Teachers and administrators have access to a dashboard that reports on pupil activity, time spent, topics covered, and areas of difficulty, which can be used to inform classroom teaching and targeted intervention. The programme is available in several languages and is used in mainstream classrooms, in special educational needs provision, and as a tool for supporting learners identified as having difficulties with mathematics.
