Calm Schools
Description
Calm Schools is a mindfulness and mental wellbeing application offered to teachers and educators that provides access to guided meditations, sleep content, breathing exercises, and relaxation resources for use in classroom and personal contexts.
Through the Calm Schools Initiative, the application is made available at no cost to teachers and other staff working in primary and secondary education. Account holders receive access to the full library of content found in the consumer version of Calm, including guided meditation sessions of varying lengths, sleep stories narrated by a range of voices, breathing techniques, ambient soundscapes, and short mindfulness exercises designed for use during the school day.
Content is organised into categories covering topics such as stress reduction, focus, anxiety management, and sleep, with sessions available for both adults and children. In educational settings, the resources are typically used in several ways.
Teachers may incorporate short breathing or grounding exercises into lesson transitions, form time, or before assessments. Pastoral staff may use the content to support pupils experiencing anxiety or difficulty with sleep, while school leaders may signpost the application as part of staff wellbeing provision.
The application is accessed through web browsers and dedicated iOS and Android mobile applications. Registration requires verification of employment in an eligible educational role, after which the standard subscription fee is waived for the duration of the user's teaching career.
