Camtasia

Developed by TechSmith, Camtasia combines screen capture functionality with a timeline-based video editor in a single desktop application available for Windows and macOS. Users can record on-screen activity, system audio, microphone input, and webcam feeds simultaneously, then edit the recorded material using tools such as transitions, annotations, callouts, cursor effects, and animated backgrounds.

The software includes a library of royalty-free assets including music tracks, sound effects, motion graphics, and intro/outro templates that can be added to projects. In educational settings, Camtasia is used by teachers, lecturers, and instructional designers to produce recorded lessons, tutorials, software walkthroughs, and flipped-classroom content.

The application supports the addition of quizzes and interactive elements that can be embedded within videos, with results capable of being reported through SCORM-compliant learning management systems. Finished projects can be exported in standard video formats or uploaded directly to platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, and Screencast.com.

Camtasia is sold through a one-time licence with optional maintenance, and offers separate education pricing for schools, colleges, and universities.
