The application includes a graphing calculator powered by Desmos, screenshot reader functionality for capturing equations from existing materials, and a mathspace digital workspace for showing working. Equations produced by the tool are readable by screen readers and other assistive technologies, supporting learners who use text-to-speech software.

Equatio is used across primary, secondary, and higher education settings, and integrates with platforms such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and various web browsers through extensions and add-ons. It is commonly deployed to support learners with dyslexia, dyscalculia, visual impairments, and other specific learning differences, as well as for general classroom use in subjects involving mathematical or scientific notation.
