InputStick
Description
InputStick is a Bluetooth USB hardware accessory used to wirelessly transmit keystrokes and text from augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices to computers and other host systems.
Distributed through PRC-Saltillo, the InputStick is a small USB dongle that pairs with AAC speech-generating devices and tablets running compatible communication software. Once plugged into a target computer, the dongle is recognised as a standard USB keyboard, allowing the paired AAC device to send typed output, navigation commands and editing keystrokes to the host machine without requiring driver installation or network configuration.
The device is used by individuals with complex communication needs, alongside speech and language therapists, teachers and learning support staff in special educational settings. Typical applications include composing documents, completing online coursework, writing emails and controlling presentation software using the user's existing AAC vocabulary and access method.
Because the InputStick presents itself as a generic HID keyboard, it can be used with desktop computers, laptops and interactive whiteboards across Windows, macOS, Linux and Chromebook environments.
