IRISPen Reader

Description

IRISPen Reader is a portable handheld pen scanner used for scanning printed text line by line, converting it into editable digital text, and reading it aloud through built-in text-to-speech functionality.

Developed by IRIS, a subsidiary of Canon, the IRISPen Reader is a stylus-shaped optical character recognition (OCR) device that captures printed text from books, documents, magazines, and other physical sources by sliding the pen across a line of text. The scanned content is digitised and can be transferred to a connected computer, tablet, or smartphone, where it can be edited, saved, or exported into common document formats.

The device supports multiple languages and can also translate scanned text between languages using integrated dictionary and translation tools. In educational settings, the IRISPen Reader is used by pupils and students who benefit from assistive reading technology, including those with dyslexia, visual impairments, or other reading difficulties.

The text-to-speech feature reads the scanned content aloud, providing auditory reinforcement of printed material. Teachers and learners also use the device for note-taking, language study, and research tasks that involve transferring printed information into digital workflows.

The pen connects to host devices via USB or Bluetooth, depending on the model, and operates with companion software supplied by IRIS.
