Kialo

Originally adapted from the general-purpose Kialo platform, Kialo Edu is designed specifically for educational use across primary, secondary, and higher education settings. The platform structures discussions as branching trees, with a central thesis or question at the top and supporting or opposing arguments arranged hierarchically beneath it.

Each contribution is classified as either a pro or con claim, and participants can vote on the strength of individual arguments, reply to specific points, and provide feedback on classmates' contributions. The service includes features for classroom management such as anonymous discussions, group mode for collaborative work, discussion templates, and integrations with Google Classroom, Microsoft, and Clever for single sign-on.

Teachers can create private discussions, monitor participation, assign tasks within discussions, and use the platform to facilitate written debate as an alternative to verbal class discussion. Kialo Edu supports multiple interface languages including English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and German, and accommodates discussions in a wider range of languages.

The platform is provided free of charge to educators and students.
