LAMP Words for Life

Developed by PRC-Saltillo, the application is based on the Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) therapeutic approach, which links cognitive, motor and sensory components to support language development. The software runs on tablet devices and presents users with a vocabulary system organised around consistent motor patterns, with each word accessed through the same sequence of taps regardless of vocabulary level.

This consistency is intended to support automaticity of word selection and reduce the cognitive load required to communicate. The app provides a range of vocabulary configurations, allowing practitioners and families to start learners on smaller vocabulary sets and transition to larger sets as language skills develop without changing the motor plan for previously learned words.

It includes features such as text-to-speech output, customisable vocabulary, vocabulary builder tools and word masking to support structured teaching. Within educational settings, the application is typically used by speech and language therapists, special educational needs coordinators and teaching staff supporting pupils with complex communication needs, including those in special schools and specialist provisions within mainstream schools.
