LEGO Education SPIKE Essential

The SPIKE Essential set contains LEGO bricks, motors, a colour light matrix, a hub and sensors that pupils use to build models and program their behaviour through a block-based coding environment. The accompanying software is available on tablets, Chromebooks, Windows and macOS devices, and uses a sequence of icon-based blocks that progresses to word blocks as learners develop their skills.

Lesson plans are organised around storylines featuring recurring minifigure characters, which are intended to provide narrative context for problem-solving tasks across subjects including literacy, mathematics and science. The product is aimed at classroom, after-school and home learning settings, and is supplied with curriculum-aligned teaching units, assessment tools and professional development resources for teachers.

Units cover topics such as engineering design, computational thinking, data handling and social-emotional learning, with guidance on linking activities to national curriculum standards. SPIKE Essential forms part of the wider LEGO Education portfolio, which also includes SPIKE Prime for older pupils, and is distributed internationally through LEGO Education and authorised resellers.
