LockDown Browser

Developed by Respondus, the application is designed for use with K-12 schools and districts that deliver assessments through learning management systems such as Canvas, Schoology, Blackboard, Moodle, and D2L Brightspace. When students take an assessment using the browser, they are prevented from printing, copying, accessing other applications, visiting other websites, or taking screenshots.

The browser also disables right-click menus, function keys, and keyboard shortcuts that could be used to navigate away from the assessment window. Assessments must be completed within the locked environment before students can exit the browser.

The software is typically deployed alongside Respondus Monitor, a companion product that adds webcam-based proctoring for remote assessments. Administrators install the browser at the institution level and configure individual quizzes or tests within the connected learning management system to require its use.

The product supports Windows, macOS, iPad, and Chromebook devices, and is used by schools to maintain assessment integrity during both in-person and remote testing situations. Licensing is generally arranged at the school or district level rather than through individual user purchases.
