Microsoft Clipchamp
Description
Microsoft Clipchamp is a browser-based video editing application used for creating, editing, and exporting video content through a drag-and-drop timeline interface.
The application provides a timeline-based editor that runs in a web browser, allowing users to import video, audio, and image files, trim and arrange clips, add transitions, apply filters, and overlay text and graphics. Features include stock media libraries, royalty-free music and sound effects, screen and webcam recording, auto-captioning, text-to-speech narration, and a selection of templates for common video formats such as social media posts, slideshows, and presentations.
Exports are available at resolutions up to 1080p, with higher resolutions and additional asset libraries available through paid subscription tiers or as part of Microsoft 365 plans. Clipchamp was acquired by Microsoft in 2021 and integrated into the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, where it is available to consumer and business subscribers and accessible through microsoft365.com.
In educational settings, the tool is used by students and staff to produce video assignments, tutorials, lesson recordings, presentations, and promotional content for school communications. It integrates with OneDrive for file storage and supports sign-in via Microsoft accounts, including school and work accounts managed through Microsoft Entra ID.
The browser-based architecture removes the need for local software installation, and projects can be accessed from devices running Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS.
