MLC Number Rack

Developed by The Math Learning Center, the application provides a digital version of the rekenrek, a counting frame consisting of rows of beads divided into groups of five by colour. Users can slide red and white beads across horizontal wires to model numbers, demonstrate addition and subtraction, and visualise number relationships.

The tool supports configurations of one to ten rows, with each row containing ten beads, and includes drawing and annotation features that allow users to mark up the workspace with lines, shapes, and text. The application is intended for use in primary and elementary mathematics classrooms, supporting instruction in counting, place value, subitising, and early operations with numbers up to 100.

It runs in web browsers and is also available as a free app for iOS, Android, Windows, and Chromebook devices. The Math Learning Center provides the Number Rack as part of a wider collection of free instructional apps designed to complement the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum, though the tool can be used independently of any specific programme.
