Description
NovaChat 8 is a dedicated augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device used by individuals with complex communication needs to generate spoken output through symbol-based and text-based vocabulary sets.
Manufactured by PRC-Saltillo, the device features an 8-inch touchscreen housed in a protective case and runs the Chat software platform, which includes a range of pre-configured vocabulary files such as WordPower and MultiChat. Users select words, phrases, or symbols on the screen, which are then spoken aloud through the integrated speaker using synthesised speech.
The device is designed for use by children and adults with conditions including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, apraxia, and acquired conditions affecting speech. In educational settings, NovaChat 8 is typically used by speech and language therapists, special educational needs coordinators, and teaching staff to support pupils who require AAC to access the curriculum and participate in classroom activities.
