Phyphox
Description
Phyphox is a mobile application used for conducting physics experiments by accessing the built-in sensors of smartphones and tablets to collect, visualise, and analyse measurement data.
Developed at RWTH Aachen University in Germany, the application provides access to sensors commonly found in mobile devices, including accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers, barometers, microphones, light sensors, and GPS modules. Users can run pre-configured experiments covering topics such as mechanics, acoustics, optics, and electromagnetism, or design custom experiments using a configuration editor.
Measurement data can be exported in formats including CSV, Excel, and JSON for further analysis in external software. Phyphox is intended for use in secondary and higher education physics teaching, as well as for independent study.
The application supports remote control of experiments from a computer via a web interface, allowing measurements to be conducted on a phone while data is monitored on a separate screen. A library of community-contributed experiments is available, alongside teaching materials and tutorials provided through the project's website.
The software is distributed free of charge for Android and iOS devices.
