Description

Piper Computer Kit is an educational DIY computer kit used for teaching children programming, electronics, and engineering through the hands-on assembly of a Raspberry Pi-based computer and accompanying software-based learning activities.

The kit consists of a wooden enclosure, a Raspberry Pi single-board computer, an LCD screen, internal wiring, breadboards, jumper wires, buttons, LEDs, and other electronic components that learners assemble following a printed blueprint. Once constructed, the device functions as a working computer with a built-in screen, keyboard input, and modular electronics that can be reconfigured to support different lessons.

The accompanying software, PiperCode, provides a block-based coding environment built on Blockly, alongside a customised version of Minecraft known as Piper's StoryMode, where learners progress through missions that require them to physically wire components to the device in order to interact with the in-game world. In educational settings, the kit is used to introduce primary and secondary pupils to computer hardware, circuit building, and introductory programming concepts such as loops, variables, conditionals, and functions.

Activities are mapped to STEM learning objectives and cover topics including basic electronics, sensors, and Python programming for older learners. The product is used in classroom, after-school club, and home-learning contexts, and is typically aimed at children aged eight and upwards.

Schools and educators use the kit as part of computing, design and technology, or STEM curricula, with supporting lesson plans and teacher resources provided by the manufacturer.
