The device features a 3.97-inch touchscreen display, dual noise-cancelling microphones, and a built-in camera for translating text from printed materials, signs, and documents via optical character recognition. Translations are processed using cloud-based engines, requiring an internet connection through either the included global eSIM data plan or Wi-Fi.

The hardware includes stereo speakers, a headphone jack, and a rechargeable battery, and operates independently of a paired smartphone. In educational settings, Pocketalk Plus is used to support communication with students and families who speak languages other than English, including during admissions interviews, parents' evenings, and day-to-day classroom interactions with English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners.
