Reading Progress

Description

Reading Progress is a Microsoft Education Learning Accelerator used for assigning, tracking, and assessing student reading fluency through recorded oral reading passages within Microsoft Teams for Education.

Built into Microsoft Teams for Education as part of the Learning Accelerators suite, the tool allows teachers to assign reading passages at varying difficulty levels and have pupils submit recordings of themselves reading aloud. The system automatically detects mispronunciations, omissions, insertions, and self-corrections, generating data on words correct per minute and accuracy rate.

Teachers can review submissions, override automated detections, and provide feedback without manually timing each pupil individually. Reading Progress integrates with the Insights analytics dashboard in Microsoft Teams, which aggregates fluency data over time and highlights specific words or phonemes that individual pupils or class groups find challenging.

The accompanying Reading Coach component provides pupils with independent practice on flagged words using text-to-speech, syllable breakdown, and picture prompts. The tools support multiple languages and are available to educational institutions with Microsoft 365 Education licences, forming part of a broader set of Learning Accelerators that also includes Search Coach, Math Coach, Speaker Coach, and Microsoft Reflect.
