SAO (SSAT)

Operated by the Enrollment Management Association (EMA), the Standard Application Online (SAO) allows applicants to complete one set of application materials and submit them to over 400 participating private schools across the United States and internationally. The system handles candidate profiles, personal statements, parent statements, teacher recommendations, school transcripts, and supporting documents, removing the need for families to complete separate applications for each institution.

Applications are managed through a unified dashboard where users can track submission status, deadlines, and required materials for each school. The SAO is part of a wider suite of admission services offered by EMA, which also includes the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) standardised assessment and the Character Skills Snapshot, a non-cognitive assessment measuring student characteristics.

The platform is designed for use across multiple grade levels from primary through secondary school admission, and supports international applicants through worldwide accessibility. Schools participating in the SAO network receive applications electronically and can integrate the materials into their internal admission review processes.

EMA operates as a nonprofit organisation supporting both member schools and applicant families through the private school admission cycle.
