Description
Silicon Mirror and Kaleidoscope is a Windows software package consisting of an image manipulation tool that creates symmetrical tiles from user images and a screensaver that generates flowing kaleidoscopic visuals in real time.
The package comprises two related applications developed by Elliot Leonard. The Silicon Mirror functions in a manner analogous to the mirrors found inside a physical kaleidoscope, allowing users to generate symmetric tiles, seamless backgrounds, and tessellations from their own source images.
The Silicon Kaleidoscope is a screensaver that uses the same underlying mirror technology to produce kaleidoscopic images that animate in real time. Both applications run on Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11, and a port of the Silicon Mirror and the related Moe's Image Viewer is available for macOS through the Mac App Store.
The software has been used by artists to create tiled artwork, including pieces produced in the style of M. C.
Escher. In an educational context, the tools may be relevant to art and design lessons covering symmetry, tessellation, pattern creation, and digital image manipulation.
