Description

Sketchar is a mobile augmented reality drawing application used for projecting digital sketches onto physical surfaces, providing step-by-step drawing lessons, and supporting digital art creation on iOS and Android devices.

The application uses augmented reality technology to project virtual images through a device's camera onto real-world surfaces such as paper, walls, and fabric, allowing users to trace the projected outlines. The AR drawing method was developed in 2012 by Andrey Drobitko, a mural artist, and the first Sketchar app was released in 2016.

In addition to AR tracing, the platform includes a digital drawing canvas with layers, custom brushes, and image import functionality, as well as structured courses covering subjects such as anime characters, human anatomy, and animal drawing. Sketchar operates on a freemium model, with a free tier providing basic features and a paid Sketchar PRO subscription offering access to premium lessons and additional tools.

Subscription options include monthly and annual plans, with a separate licensing arrangement available to schools and universities at no cost. The service is aimed at beginners learning to draw, hobbyists, and professional artists, including muralists who use the AR projection feature for transferring sketches onto large wall surfaces.

Sketchar also provides companion products including a VR headset application for muralists and a paint calculator tool.
