SketchUp for Schools

Description

SketchUp for Schools is a browser-based 3D modelling application used by primary and secondary education students and teachers for creating digital designs, supporting subjects such as design technology, architecture, engineering, and geometry.

The application runs within a web browser and is provided to qualifying educational institutions at no cost. It is integrated with Google Workspace for Education and Microsoft Education, allowing students and teachers to sign in using their existing school accounts and save projects to associated cloud storage.

The platform includes the core modelling tools found in the wider SketchUp product range, such as push/pull geometry editing, component libraries, and access to the 3D Warehouse model repository. Alongside the modelling environment, the programme provides curriculum resources, lesson plans, and project guides aimed at teachers introducing 3D design into the classroom.

Materials cover applications in subjects including mathematics, science, design and technology, and the creative arts, and are organised by age group and skill level. The service is administered by Trimble, which acquired SketchUp from Google in 2012, and forms part of a tiered product family that also includes desktop and professional editions used in architecture, construction, and product design industries.
