TouchChat

Developed by PRC-Saltillo, the application runs on iOS devices including iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, and uses synthesised speech output to vocalise words and phrases selected by the user. The software includes a range of pre-configured vocabulary sets and page layouts that can be customised to suit individual users, supporting communication for people with conditions such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, apraxia, stroke, and other conditions affecting verbal expression.

In educational settings, TouchChat is used by speech and language therapists, special educational needs coordinators (SENCOs), and teaching staff to support pupils who require alternative methods of communication. The application provides symbol-based and text-based communication options, with vocabulary pages that can be edited to add new words, images, and phrases relevant to a specific user's environment, curriculum, or interests.

Additional features include word prediction, multiple voice options, and the ability to share customised vocabulary files between devices. A version with WordPower vocabulary is also available, which uses core word strategies designed to support language development.
