UDOIT Advantage

Developed by Cidi Labs, the tool examines course materials hosted in the Canvas LMS, checking content against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards. It identifies issues such as missing alternative text on images, improper heading structures, insufficient colour contrast, inaccessible tables, and problems with embedded media.

The tool generates reports detailing the accessibility errors and suggestions found within a course, allowing instructors and instructional designers to address barriers that may prevent students with disabilities from accessing learning materials. UDOIT Advantage extends the functionality of the original open-source UDOIT project with additional features aimed at higher education institutions.

These include the UFIXIT remediation interface, which allows users to correct accessibility issues directly within the tool without leaving the Canvas environment, as well as institutional reporting dashboards that provide aggregate data on accessibility compliance across courses, departments, and the wider institution. The platform supports bulk scanning of multiple courses, integration with Canvas at the institutional level, and ongoing monitoring of content as it is updated.

It is typically used by universities and colleges to support compliance with accessibility legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, as well as to assist faculty and course designers in producing inclusive digital learning materials.
