Description

VEX EXP is an educational robotics platform used for building, programming, and competing with modular robots in middle school STEM classrooms and competitions.

Designed as an intermediate platform between VEX IQ and VEX V5, VEX EXP uses a metal construction system with screw-together components, brushless smart motors, and a programmable brain that supports both block-based and text-based coding through VEXcode EXP. The system includes sensors for distance, optical detection, inertial measurement, and rotation tracking, allowing students to develop autonomous and driver-controlled robot behaviours.

Hardware is compatible with elements from other VEX product lines, enabling progression as students develop their skills. The platform is used in classroom instruction and as the basis for the VEX EXP Robotics Competition, which forms part of the REC Foundation's competitive programme.

Teachers can access curriculum materials, lesson plans, and activities through the VEX Library, with content aligned to engineering, computer science, and mathematics standards. VEX EXP is typically adopted by secondary schools, after-school clubs, and STEM enrichment programmes seeking a robotics system that bridges introductory and advanced competitive robotics.
