VEX IQ
Description
VEX IQ is an educational robotics platform produced by VEX Robotics, used for teaching STEM concepts, coding, and engineering principles to primary and middle school students through snap-together robot construction.
The platform consists of plastic snap-together components, motors, sensors, and a programmable brain that allow students to build robots without tools. Programming is supported through VEXcode IQ, which provides a graphical block-based interface alongside text-based options in Python and C++.
The system includes a range of sensors such as distance, touch, optical, and gyroscopic sensors, enabling students to develop projects involving autonomous navigation, object detection, and sequential logic. VEX IQ is used in classrooms, after-school clubs, and competitive robotics programmes, including the VEX IQ Robotics Competition organised by the REC Foundation.
Teachers can access curriculum resources, lesson plans, and certification programmes through the VEX Professional Development Plus platform. The system is designed for learners aged approximately 8 to 14 and aligns with curriculum standards covering computational thinking, mechanical design, and problem-solving.
Schools typically adopt VEX IQ as part of broader STEM education initiatives, computer science programmes, or extracurricular robotics teams.
