Via Pro
Description
Via Pro is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) application developed by PRC-Saltillo for iPad, designed to support individuals with speech and language difficulties in expressing themselves through symbol-based and text-based communication.
Developed by PRC-Saltillo, Via Pro runs on iPad devices and includes a range of vocabulary files such as LAMP Words for Life, Unity, and WordPower. These vocabularies use symbol-based language systems that allow users to construct sentences and communicate by selecting icons, words, or phrases on the screen.
The application generates spoken output through synthesised voices and supports customisation of vocabulary, button layouts, and display settings to accommodate different motor, sensory, and cognitive needs. The application is used in educational settings by speech and language therapists, special educational needs coordinators, teaching assistants, and class teachers working with pupils who have complex communication needs, including those with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and acquired conditions affecting speech.
Features include word prediction, message banking, multiple access methods such as touch and switch scanning, and the ability to share vocabulary files between devices. Via Pro also supports data logging and language activity monitoring, which can be used by practitioners to track communication development and inform intervention planning.
