Description

WriteReader is an online book-creation platform used by primary and early-years educators to develop students' literacy skills through writing, reading, and illustrating digital books.

The platform is built around a dual-page interface in which pupils write text on one side while a teacher or parent provides a corrected version on the opposite side, allowing learners to compare their own attempts with conventional spelling. Books can incorporate images sourced from device cameras, uploaded files, or integrated image libraries, and finished works can be published, shared with classmates, or exported as PDFs.

The service supports multiple languages and is designed for use on tablets, Chromebooks, and desktop computers within classroom settings. WriteReader is used by teachers in primary schools, kindergartens, and early-years settings to support emergent writing, phonics practice, and reading comprehension.

The platform includes class management features that allow teachers to organise pupils into groups, assign book projects, and review submitted work. It integrates with Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, and Clever for single sign-on and roster synchronisation.

The service is based on research into early literacy development and the relationship between writing and reading acquisition, and is offered through both free and paid subscription tiers for schools and districts.
